People mistakenly think that you need to put on some kind of clown show as a teacher

That you are supposed to be some standup comedian, who needs to constantly keep the class entertained

The truth is, I’m actually a fairly “low energy” teacher

By that I mean, I’m not very naturally extroverted, so I come across as more reserved

And that’s actually a benefit as a teacher, because, here’s a secret….

…. you’re supposed to let your students do most of the talking!

I’ve had clients who mistakenly think that they need to be talking the entire class time

They were shocked to know that I actually don’t speak very much in many of my classes

The students are in class to practice their English, so let them practice

It’s your job as the teacher to guide their practice, and provide them correction for any serious mistakes they make while speaking

So let your students talk, and you get to save energy by not having to constantly be the one conversing

Everybody wins!
