Recently I was speaking to a guy from the UK who is interested in English teaching

(Most of my clients are usually American, but occasionally I’ll have a Brit or a Canadian slide through)

He was talking to me about arranging a consultation, and he told me he was looking for a teaching certification

I get a lot of messages in my inbox, so I got distracted and forgot to get back to him about that (lazy move on my part! 😅)

Almost a week went by when I finally followed up with him, but by then it was too late….

He told me that he bought a 3 month (an incredibly long time!!) certification program at a college in the UK

No only was it extremely lengthy, it was overpriced (it cost almost 2,000 dollars! And that doesn’t even include the fee he has to pay for books to take the program!)

And, because it’s an in-person program, he has to get in his car and struggle through traffic to attend it every week

Basically, he got scammed by the college offering the program

One thing that I always try to warn my clients about is taking overpriced teaching certification courses

There are lots of schools out there trying to fool unsuspecting teachers into thinking that they need these exaggerated and insanely lengthy courses to get a job as a teacher

And then, if you finish the course, they try to upsell you on even more (probably useless!) certifications

➡️ You DON’T have to get finessed like the UK guy did

When I’ve worked with clients, I’ve helped them from start to finish of choosing the right (fast and inexpensive ) certification program that will put them on track to start making money with English teaching ASAP

And I ALWAYS recommend online options, because that’s the most efficient method of learning these days (and that efficiency is why me and my clients are able to get so many online teaching opportunities 😉)

Don’t waste money (and time!) on the certification scam
