This week an AI video of Trump dancing to Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” went viral.
It made me laugh at first, but then it got me thinking.
The longer I live overseas, the more the U.S. feels like a parallel universe compared to the life I’ve been living in Asia for the past 12 years.
If you really listen to This Is America, it’s about distractions, chaos, money, and survival all happening at the same time. Everything moves fast. Everything is loud. Everyone is chasing something.
And to be clear, America is great for making money.
But it’s also a place where it’s easy to get stuck in the grind, distracted by noise, and wake up years later wondering where the time went.
Living overseas gave me something different.
More space.
More perspective.
More control over how I spend my days.
That doesn’t mean running away from responsibility. It means choosing your environment intentionally.
For a lot of guys, English teaching is the simplest bridge between those two worlds. You can earn in strong currencies while living somewhere calmer, cheaper, and more human.
