One thing you might often hear remote workers complain about is time zone differences 🕗

Because of the power of the internet, a lot of us can make money online outside of the timezone of the country where we are getting paid

And, honestly, that’s (usually) a big blessing!

But it can also be a little tiring, especially if it means that you have to wake up earlier or sleep later than usual….

And that can be a real downside, especially if you are trying to travel while also teaching English online!

Here’s my recent travel story…..

For my online classes for this semester, I signed up for morning classes

My logic was that a lot of the fun stuff probably happens after 12pm, so I likely won’t miss out on much by teaching classes in the morning

(And that’s been true, for the most part!)

But, like the old saying goes, sometimes you’ve gotta take the bad with the good

Yes, I’ve had my afternoons, evenings, and nights mostly to myself, to do anything I please

(and, because I’m traveling in Southeast Asia, there’s a LOT of fun times to be had!)

But I also have to wake up pretty early most days….

And, due to the timezone differences of me and my students, I’m waking up an hour earlier than I would have if I had stayed in China

So I’ve been rolling out of bed around 6:40am almost every day, and using a combination of red bull energy drinks and coffee to keep me energized during my 4 hours of morning classes

Kids, don’t try this at home!

I’ve been working on sleeping earlier so that I’m not so mentally toasted during my morning classes, but it’s not easy with so much fun temptation around me! (I’m currently typing this from Pattaya, Thailand)

Anyways, I just wrote this to show you that it’s not all roses and sunshine when you are teaching English online 🥀

Yeah, the lifestyle is amazing, and I’m SUPER grateful that I get to live this kind of life

But needing to keep yourself from falling back asleep while teaching a classroom full of kids definitely isn’t something I recommend you do!
